Features

Acrylic

The BiOrb Cube Aquarium is made entirely out of clear acrylic instead of the often-used glass.

It is much stronger than glass, so during shipping, assembly, or if you should drop the aquarium for any reason, it is much less likely to break. You and any fish who are living in the aquarium will be very happy about that!

The lid of the aquarium also has a magnetic catch, so if you’re feeding your fish, you don’t have to worry about neglecting to put the lid back down; the magnet ensures it’s completely closed. That’s especially good if you have a cat who aims to get one of your fish!

Light

The BiOrb Cube also has a light, so you can easily see what’s going on inside your aquarium.

However, this isn’t just any light; it can change 16 different colors depending on what your mood is that day (or what you think your fish will like). Also, you can operate the light with a remote control, but that’s not all!

There are also four time-cycles you can choose from that will simulate natural light conditions. You just have to choose whether you want the 8, 10, or 12-hour setting. The lighting can also run 24/7 if that fits your schedule better.

Water

The BiOrb Cube is strictly a freshwater aquarium. So, make sure the fish you already have or the fish you plan on purchasing are able to survive in freshwater.

Saltwater will not work with this aquarium, and saltwater fish will not be happy with you if you try to put them in a freshwater environment.

Filtration

The BiOrb Cube uses three different stages of filtration.

The filter uses ceramic media for the biological filtration, the mechanical filtration stage collects excess dirt, and the chemical stage uses carbon to filter out any heavy metals, ensuring the water is completely clean and clear.

You will need to change the filter cartridge once a month, and this cartridge is located at the base of the aquarium.

Air Pump

The air pump works to help push the water through the filter and return the water back to the tank via the “bubble” tube.

The Positives

Easy Set-Up

If you’ve never had an aquarium or it’s been years, you don’t have to worry about setting it up. It’s pretty simple.

Everything you need comes in the box, and all that’s necessary is the fish, the water, and any decorations you want to place inside the tank.

You just have to attach the pump and the filtration system, plug everything in, add water and the fish, and you’re all set.

This is great for those just starting out, or those purchasing this aquarium as a first tank, as everything you need to get started will be on hand, saving you the time and hassle of finding everything in a pet store.

Easy to Clean

The BiOrb is also easy to maintain which is great for beginners who may be unsure of where to begin or busybodies who don’t have a lot of time to give to the maintenance of their tank.

You won’t have to spend hours taking apart your aquarium and filter just to get it clean every couple of weeks.

The filter system guarantees that everything remains clear and healthy for the fish, and you only have to change the cartridge every few weeks. That’s it!

Safe

Due to the aquarium’s acrylic design, you don’t have to worry about the tank cracking or shattering if you should bump it or if it should fall while you’re trying to set it up.

The acrylic is much stronger than glass and won’t break as easily. The BiOrb also comes with a pump and lights that are low voltage, so you don’t have to worry about shortages or the water getting near the electric parts. BiOrb has thought of just about everything!

This tank may look delicate in its clear casing, but it’s sturdy enough to stand tests of time. Safety in a tank is more important when you have children or guests frequenting your home where you won’t have to worry about potential accidents.

The BiOrb Cube is also pretty compact. While it can hold up to 60 litres of water, it is small enough to fit into an apartment or on a small desk, should you need it too.

You no longer need to have a huge space to enjoy the tranquillity an aquarium provides. This is great news for those who are short on space whether in an apartment, studio, or dorm, and makes a great excuse to give the office a new pet.

Since acrylic was used in the design of this tank, you can expect it to be much lighter than glass aquariums of the same size, which makes it less troublesome to move around should you need to rearrange your environment.

Good for Beginners

Quite a few users also mentioned how good this aquarium is if you are new to owning fish. Since it’s so easy to set up, and the filter and pump system aren’t that difficult to figure out, it is great for beginners.

The Negatives

Longevity 

A few reviewers stated that their Cube stopped working after only a few months of owning it.

While this aquarium is by no means the most expensive, but if you’re paying a couple or a few hundred bucks, it should last more than a few months.

This wasn’t the majority experience, but it is definitely something you should consider before buying. If you notice something faulty when you unpackage it from its box, be sure to contact customer service in advance.

Not Enough Lighting

A couple of users also complained that, while the lighting was a good feature to have, it wasn’t bright enough for them.

They also didn’t like that once they took the hood off of the aquarium (which the light is attached to) they could no longer see inside the tank.

The lights are great when the hood is on and you’re just looking at the aquarium, but if you need to do any work inside of it, like move decorations around or scoop out a fish, it’s not the best-designed feature.

If you plan on having this tank in a well-lit space, there won’t be a need to worry, though if you’re looking to add a bit of light to a corner with this aquarium, it’s best to keep this note in mind.

Loud Pump

There were also a few users who thought the pump was very loud when it was working. As this is something that runs 24/7 to help move the water into the filter, it’s definitely an issue, especially if you have a problem with loud noises.

This is also troublesome if you were hoping to place this aquarium in an area that needs to remain quiet, like a bedroom or a kid’s room, and can limit where you decide to place your fish.

If you’re sensitive to noise, you’ll be better off placing this aquarium in a space that’s prone to noise like the kitchen, hallway, or living room.

Pricey Filter Cartridges

Some users also noted that the filter cartridges were too expensive, especially given the fact that BiOrb tells you to change them every 4-6 weeks.

With other filters, you simply have to rinse them out and possibly change the media, but with the BiOrb, you have to take out and put in a new cartridge. They are not reusable.

While there are some issues with possible noise and the need to buy filters every month, they do not outweigh the positives of the aquarium’s size, ease of use, and easy maintenance.
